Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.

City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.

A senior representative stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
